This study aims to examine the implications of delayed salary and holiday allowance (THR) payments on lecturers’ work motivation and well-being in private higher education institutions, as well as to analyze this phenomenon through the lens of Islamic economics. The research employs a phenomenological approach, utilizing in-depth interviews with eight lecturers in Surakarta. The findings reveal that delays in salary and THR payments adversely affect lecturers’ financial well-being, leading to heightened stress and anxiety. These financial challenges also diminish work motivation, as most lecturers experience reduced enthusiasm for teaching. From the perspective of Islamic economics, delayed payments violate the principles of justice and trust (amanah), which emphasize the timely fulfillment of financial obligations. Consequently, private higher education institutions should enhance their financial management systems to ensure punctual payment of lecturers’ entitlements, thereby fostering greater work motivation and improving the overall quality of education.
