Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the implementation of bedside handover and patient safety at Cut Meutia Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in North Aceh. A quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. The study was conducted at RSUD Cut Meutia, North Aceh, involving 97 nurses selected via total sampling based on inclusion criteria. Data were collected using questionnaires regarding bedside handover implementation and patient safety, as well as an observation sheet for bedside handover execution. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods, specifically the Spearman correlation test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results indicated that the average implementation of bedside handover fell into the "good" category, with a mean score of 4.04. The information quality dimension had the highest mean score (4.16), while the environment and support dimension had the lowest (3.80). Observational results showed a 91.9% compliance rate for bedside handover implementation. Bivariate analysis using the Spearman test revealed a significant relationship between bedside handover implementation and patient safety (ρ = 0.260; p = 0.010). The study concludes that better implementation of bedside handover is associated with higher levels of patient safety; there is a significant positive relationship between the two variables at RSUD Cut Meutia, North Aceh. Improving the quality of bedside handover implementation can support effective communication, continuity of care, and efforts to enhance patient safety within the hospital.
