Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of combining Token Economy and Social Skills Training (SST) in enhancing self-care abilities and social interaction among patients with mental disorders. The method employed a pre-experimental design (One Group Pre-Post Test Design). The results indicated a significant increase in social interaction abilities, with median scores rising from 13.0 at pre-test to 17.0 at post-test (p < 0.001; W = 153). Similarly, self-care abilities showed a meaningful improvement, with median scores increasing from 16.0 at pre-test to 19.0 at post-test (p = 0.005; W = 55). The Token Economy system effectively reduced avolition through positive reinforcement to stimulate motor activities for self-care, while SST successfully reconstructed communication skills. In conclusion, the synergy between Token Economy and SST is effective in improving the adaptive functioning of chronic psychiatric patients and is recommended as a multimodal intervention model in social rehabilitation facilities.
