Abstract

The purpose of this study was to deeply understand the dynamics of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and major depression in an 18-year-old female adolescent (TY) who was a victim of repeated sexual abuse within her own family environment. This research method used a qualitative case study approach to explore the subject's experiences in depth through clinical interviews, observations, and a series of psychological assessments including the TAT, SSCT, WAIS, BDI) and the Screening for PTSD Symptoms Scale (SPTSS). The results showed that the subject experienced PTSD with significant symptoms of re-experiencing, avoidance, and hyperarousal, accompanied by severe symptoms of major depression. The subject's psychological condition worsened due to a combination of factors such as repeated sexual abuse, dysfunctional family dynamics, and a long history of emotional neglect and verbal and physical abuse since childhood. The conclusion of this study confirms that PTSD does not only function as a single response to traumatic experiences, but can also be a gateway to the development of other affective disorders such as depression. When individuals are in an unsupportive family environment, these symptoms tend to persist longer and slow the overall psychological recovery process.
