Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of linguistic errors—at the phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic levels—found in online news articles from Kompas.com, and to apply these findings as instructional material for news text lessons in high schools. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed. The data consist of excerpts from sentences and news headlines containing linguistic errors, sourced from Kompas.com. Data collection was carried out using the "observe and note" method, involving the selection of sources, careful reading of the news, and documentation of the errors. The data were then analyzed through reduction, coding based on the level of error (phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic), and classification of the errors, followed by the provision of corrections in accordance with the standard Indonesian language guidelines (EYD V). The results indicate that linguistic errors persist across all four levels, ranging from phoneme alterations and issues with affixation to the misuse of prepositions and the occurrence of pleonasms. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the quality of journalistic language in online media still requires fundamental improvement to ensure adherence to linguistic standards. Consequently, it is suggested that the findings of this study serve as a basis for evaluation by mass media outlets and be utilized as an alternative, contextual teaching resource for high school education.
