Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Kyai Jangkar Temple within the Sam Poo Kong complex, Semarang, as a religious tourism destination in strengthening tolerance and interfaith harmony. The research employed a qualitative method through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and field documentation, combined with narrative analysis of the temple’s historical symbolism. The findings indicate that Kyai Jangkar Temple functions not only as a place of worship for the Chinese community but also as a multicultural public space open to people of diverse faiths. Religious tourism activities such as festivals, pilgrimages, and historical education have fostered interreligious dialogue, reduced prejudice, and promoted religious moderation. The symbolic anchor relic and the narrative of Admiral Cheng Ho serve as educational media reflecting values of friendship, acculturation, and peace. The study concludes that Kyai Jangkar Temple plays a strategic role as a center of religious tourism, cultural preservation, and social tolerance in Semarang, serving as a model of religious moderation in Indonesia.
