Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of excessive exercise intensity at the gym on sleep quality for students at the University of Education Indonesia (UPI), Sumedang Campus. This research method used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. Data were obtained from 40 active students who exercise at the gym, and a questionnaire regarding exercise duration, including the length and frequency of exercise per day. Data analysis showed excessive exercise intensity had no significant relationship with sleep quality. Students who exercised for a moderate duration (30-60 minutes per session) had lower PSQI scores, reflecting better sleep quality, compared to those who exercised for excessive durations (>180 minutes). Furthermore, regular exercise frequency, i.e., 3-5 times per week, improves sleep quality. Conclusion: The appropriate duration and frequency of exercise can support optimal sleep quality, so students must manage their exercise routines wisely to avoid disrupting their sleep rhythms.
