Abstract

This study aimed to describe the principal’s leadership management in improving teacher performance at Public Elementary School 29 in Lubuklinggau City. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The research informants consisted of the principal, teachers, and education personnel who were purposively selected based on their involvement and knowledge of the research focus. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and verification. The results showed that the principal had implemented management functions, including planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating, reasonably well. Leadership strategies were implemented through motivation, academic supervision, open communication, training, mentoring, and recognition for teachers. Improvements in teacher performance were supported by a conducive work climate, harmonious working relationships, and continuous professional development programs. However, the implementation still faced several obstacles, including limited facilities and infrastructure, uneven technological competence among teachers, and budget constraints. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the principal’s leadership management plays an important role in improving teacher performance at Public Elementary School 29 in Lubuklinggau City.
